In the hot summer season, keeping rabbits safe is crucial, especially for long-haired breeds. Using water-cooled air conditioning in rabbit sheds has proven to be highly effective. This system not only cools the environment but also allows the cooled water to be reused, making it a simple and cost-efficient solution.
The original double-row rabbit house was transformed into a more efficient structure. Instead of using cement tiles, a layer of straw was placed on top for insulation. An 8-meter-wide plastic film was then stretched over the entire area, with grasshoppers (a type of shade net) fixed in place. The grasshoppers are designed to be easily removed or covered depending on the temperature. During peak heat, the shed is fully enclosed and air-conditioned all day. When temperatures drop in the morning or evening, the films and grasshoppers are opened to allow natural ventilation and cleaning, ensuring fresh air circulation.
This method effectively solves several common issues: high odor levels, excessive mechanical costs, high energy consumption, low rabbit density, poor space utilization, and inefficiency during cooler weather. Traditional indoor air conditioners often run unnecessarily, leading to waste. With this system, the water from the air conditioning can also be repurposed for daily use—such as drinking water for rabbits, cleaning cages, cooling the ceiling, and watering green feed.
The water-cooled air conditioning system can be customized based on the size of the area. Typically, seven units can cool between 90 to 120 rabbit houses. Based on standard dimensions—each rabbit house is about 1.4 meters wide, with two rows spaced 2.8 meters apart, and each room accommodating 20 rabbits in three layers across two rows—the total number reaches around 120. This setup increases the density and improves space utilization significantly. Water sources can be sourced from self-drilled wells, and in winter, the same system can be adapted for greenhouse heating.
