According to a report by Singapore’s “Lianhe Zaobao†on June 1, the Brazilian Pharmaceutical Foundation recently demonstrated a Zika virus rapid detection reagent in Salvador, a city in northeastern Brazil, which can detect Zika virus within 20 minutes. This is the first Zika virus detection reagent certified by the Brazilian National Health and Quarantine Bureau and can be produced and sold nationwide.
According to reports, the reagent was jointly developed by the Bahia Pharmaceutical Foundation of the Bahia State Health Authority and a Korean company called GenBody. Regardless of the stage of the Zika virus infecting the patient, this reagent can be detected and the results can be obtained in only 20 minutes. Previously, professional laboratories usually took a week to complete the test.
According to the requirements of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the Bahia Pharmaceutical Foundation will produce 500,000 doses of this reagent to meet market demand.
Bahia State Health Director Boas said: "This reagent can not only find the virus, but also find the organ invaded by the virus. Previous tests must be done in a specialized laboratory, and this reagent is very fast, only need The serum was separated and the result was obtained in 20 minutes."
According to the latest data from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, from January 3 to April 23 this year, a total of 120,161 suspected cases of Zika in Brazil were reported, involving 1,605 cities, of which 39,993 were confirmed.
