To ensure the quality of meat from local chicken breeds and to promote faster growth, castration is an essential practice. One effective method is using a small castration forceps to remove the testicles. This technique is widely used in many regions due to its efficiency and speed. Once mastered, an individual can perform this procedure on approximately 30 chickens per hour.

The process begins by securing the chicken’s legs and wings with a small rope on a stool or wooden board. Next, carefully remove about 1 cm of feathers near the midline of the back, just below the last rib. Disinfect the area with an alcohol swab before making the incision. Using a scalpel, cut through the skin and subcutaneous tissue along the ribs, and gently break the peritoneum. The incision should be around 1.5 cm long. With your left hand, lift the ribs slightly while inserting the forceps into the opening with your right hand. Rotate the forceps 90 degrees and press down on the intestines to expose the testicles, which appear as two small, pale structures on either side of the spine. Carefully open the jaws of the forceps, clamp the testicles, and gently pull them out.

Important tips: 1. Beginners should first remove one testicle, then turn the chicken over to remove the other. Once experienced, it's possible to remove both testicles in one operation. 2. If the incision is too large, it's recommended to suture it with 1-2 stitches. 3. If swelling or herniation occurs several days after the surgery, gently deflate the area above the hernia with a needle. 4. For beginners who have trouble locating the testicles, check if the incision is clear, whether the intestines are properly pressed down, and if the forceps are aligned correctly. 5. When performing the procedure for the first time, avoid moving the chicken until the forceps are fully inside the abdominal cavity to prevent damage to the kidneys, which could lead to the death of the bird.

With proper training and careful execution, this procedure can be performed safely and effectively, contributing to better meat quality and improved growth rates in chickens. It's important to maintain hygiene throughout the process and handle the birds with care to minimize stress and complications.
