New Gene Chips Help Infectious Diseases It is reported that an international medical research team has recently developed a gene chip called greene chip that can quickly diagnose infectious diseases such as malaria and influenza.
The greene chip is a slide with a row of dna or rna specimens collected from more than 30,000 different viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. After the chip is in contact with the patient's sample, the bacteria in the sample will stick to the genetic material in the chip specimen, and the cause can be basically determined according to this phenomenon.
The researchers tested the chip by sampling several patients with respiratory diseases, hemorrhagic fever, and tuberculosis. Test results show that the accuracy of chip diagnostics is as high as that of conventional methods such as culturing bacteria, viruses, or using polymerase chain reaction to observe genetic material, and the speed is much faster.
