How to use herbicide in nursery

When herbicides are applied in fruit tree nurseries, the selection of herbicide types, formulation forms, dosage rates, and application methods must be based on seedling growth stages, weed species, and weather conditions. Failing to consider these factors can lead to poor weed control and even phytotoxic effects on the young trees. There are two common ways to apply herbicides: First, the spraying method. This is suitable for wettable powders, emulsifiable concentrates (EC), and water-based formulations. The droplet size of the spray should generally be between 100 to 200 microns. If the droplets are too large, they won't adhere well to the weeds and may fall off; if they're too fine, they can be easily carried away by wind, reducing effectiveness. To prepare the herbicide solution, you'll need a water tank, buckets, filter gauze, and a stirrer. It's important to measure the correct amount of herbicide and water to avoid errors. Weigh the required amount of herbicide using a balance or a precise scale, then package it separately for each use. Use a fixed bucket with marked measurement lines to draw the exact amount of water each time. Dissolve the herbicide in a small amount of water first, then add the rest of the water and mix thoroughly. The total water volume should be around 30 to 50 kg per acre. Always use the prepared solution immediately, as storing it for long periods can reduce its effectiveness. Second, the soil treatment method. This involves mixing the herbicide with fine soil. The soil should be sifted through a No. 10 to No. 20 mesh sieve. It should be moist but not overly wet, so it can be easily spread and mixed. Apply the mixture evenly at a rate of about 15 to 20 kg per mu. If the herbicide is in powder form, mix it directly with the soil. If it's a liquid or cream, dilute it with water first before applying it to the soil using a sprayer. For small quantities, mix the herbicide with a small amount of soil first, then combine it with the full batch and distribute it evenly. This ensures better coverage and more effective weed control.
