China set up a professional agency to monitor food safety

October 13th Beijing National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center was established in Beijing on the 13th.

According to Liu Jinfeng, the first director of the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center, the center is a national-level technical agency responsible for food safety risk assessment and undertakes technical support for national food safety risk assessment, monitoring, early warning, communication, and food safety standards.

In recent years, there have been frequent food safety incidents in China. “Clenbuterol”, “oil waste” and “problem with ginger” have caused widespread public concern. Since 2010, China has fully implemented the national food safety risk monitoring plan, initially established a nationwide food safety risk monitoring system, established the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Expert Committee and the National Food Quality Standards Review Committee, and formulated the implementation of risk monitoring. Evaluate related systems and complete a series of emergency and routine risk assessment tasks.

Liu Jinfeng, who served in the Department of Health of the Ministry of Health, said that the establishment of the research center has played an important role in improving China's food safety, protecting public health, and strengthening international cooperation.

According to the constitution of the center, in its basic work on food safety assessment, it specifically undertakes the tasks of collecting, processing and analyzing relevant scientific basis, technical information, and inspection results for food safety risk assessment, and submits the risk assessment to the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Expert Committee. The results of the analysis are announced to the public after they are confirmed and reported to the Ministry of Health.

When talking about future plans, Liu Jinfeng pointed out that by the end of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, the assessment center will gradually be established as an authoritative food safety risk assessment agency with international influence.

It was also learned that the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center established an initial 200 approved financial aid business establishment. It was the first institution approved by the central government after the implementation of the overall reform of the public sector classification.
