After a significant number of eggplants have flowered and set fruit, the root system's ability to absorb nutrients gradually declines. This weakens the plant’s overall health, making it more susceptible to diseases and pests, which in turn accelerates the decline in tree vigor. As a result, the number of flowers and fruits decreases, the flowering period shortens, and yield drops significantly. To counter this, proper and timely cultivation practices must be implemented. These efforts help delay the decline of the plant, reduce pest damage, ensure continuous flowering, extend the harvest season, and ultimately boost both yield and quality.
First, timely fertilization is crucial during the flowering and fruiting stage. Every 15 to 20 days, apply a balanced mix of N, P, K fertilizer along with high-quality organic matter to maintain plant vitality and prevent nutrient deficiency. For each acre, use 10–15 kg of cooked peanut pods, 8–8 kg of NPK fertilizer, and 100–150 times diluted compost tea or decomposed manure water. This helps sustain the plant’s energy and supports continued fruit production.
Second, pest control is essential after flowering. Common pests such as gray mold, aphids, thrips, whiteflies, and leaf miners can accelerate the plant’s decline. To manage these, spray the foliage every 10–15 days with a mixture of 1000-fold Farmland, 1000-fold Skrine, or 1000-fold James solution, along with 1000-fold Mildewing Ling. Apply the mixture for 2–3 consecutive times, ensuring even coverage on all leaves and fruits until droplets form. If rain occurs within 4 hours after spraying, reapply to maintain effectiveness and protect the plants from further damage.
Third, foliar feeding should be done regularly during the flowering period. Spray a solution containing 0.1% magnesium sulfate, 0.2% urea, 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and 3000-fold Huangjia natural salt every 7–10 days. Alternatively, use 800-fold liquid vegetable-specific organic humic acid, 1500-fold Shennong chelated fertilizer, or 1500-fold Yunda-120 enhanced mixture. Applying these solutions 2–3 times helps increase leaf nutrient levels, keep leaves dark green, prevent yellowing, delay the loss of vigor, promote continuous flowering, improve fruit setting, and extend the harvesting window.
Fourth, root cultivation is an important step during the flowering period. Use well-composted waste manure, pond mud, or other soil amendments to cover the roots. Apply 2–3 kg per plant, with a layer about 3–5 cm thick. This helps protect exposed roots, prevent root recession, and enhance the plant’s nutrient absorption capacity, supporting long-term growth and productivity.
