Leaf blight typically affects the leaves, starting from the leaf tips. Initially, small brown spots appear and gradually expand into a fan-shaped pattern toward the center of the leaf. The margins of the lesions turn dark brown or gray-brown. As the disease progresses, black granules may develop on the affected areas, and the leaves eventually wilt and die. This condition is commonly observed in greenhouses, where high humidity, poor air circulation, and warm temperatures create ideal conditions for its development.
To manage leaf blight, several preventive and control measures can be taken. First, ensure proper care by maintaining appropriate soil salinity levels and regularly repotting plants with fresh soil. Second, apply a 1% solution of ferrous sulfate every 7 to 10 days to help suppress the disease. Third, during the early stages of infection, spray a 50% bacteriostatic agent diluted at 1000 times, or use a 65% dexamethasone solution diluted between 800 to 1000 times. Alternatively, a 70% thiophanate solution diluted at 500 times can also be effective. It's important to monitor the plants closely and take action as soon as symptoms are detected to prevent the spread of the disease. Regularly inspecting the foliage and maintaining good greenhouse hygiene will further reduce the risk of leaf blight.
