Fertilized eggs with low hatching rate caused by viral disease

Recently, Min Wanxing of Ma’anshan City, Anhui Province, reported to the newspaper “The Pastoral Doctor 110” that his family had a total of about 100 hens and had collaborated with 7 to 8 roosters. He wanted to hatch eggs and hatched them recently. The hatching rate is about 10% lower than before and the number of embryonic eggs increased when the eggs were hatched. He asked: What happens when the hatching rate drops? Why do embryos die? Is there any way to improve it?

The reporter interviewed Li Yin, a researcher at the Institute for Veterinary Research of the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, who is the director of the Research Institute of Poultry Epidemic Disease Prevention. Li Yin, after learning about the incidence of Bian Wanxing’s chickens, analyzed that the mix of males and females of the breeders was relatively reasonable. , It should not be caused by the physiological phenomenon that the hatching rate of eggs drops. It may be that the breeder suffered from a viral disease such as infectious bronchitis, Newcastle disease, and bird flu. When such diseases occur in breeder chickens, the virus will infect eggs to form embryonic dead eggs through vertical transmission, which means that the egg production of the hens will decrease and the embryos will die more. Antiviral drugs such as astragalus polysaccharides may be added to the feed, preferably every spring, autumn bird flu, infectious bronchitis and Newcastle disease vaccines, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of such diseases.

Will it be due to climate factors such as the recent drop in temperature? Li Yin said that if it is the cause of the climate, although the egg production rate of the breeder may be reduced, the hatching rate will not be reduced, and there will be no increase in dead eggs. In addition, it may be caused by the lack of minerals, trace elements, etc. in the feed, especially if the vitamin E content is too low, properly increasing the supply of trace elements in the feed may improve the hatching rate of the hatching eggs.
