Amaranthus fragrans thrives in warm and moist environments and is cold-resistant. It has specific soil requirements; while it can be grown in general soil, it performs best in well-drained, fertile sandy loam. Proper cultivation techniques are essential to ensure healthy growth and high yields.
Cultivation Techniques:
1. Planting Methods: Amaranthus fragrans can be propagated through buds or by transplanting seedlings.
Bud propagation is typically done before the onset of cold weather or in early spring, with pre-chilling planting being more favorable. This method not only increases yield but also avoids the hassle of storing roots during winter. Approximately 75-100 kg of buds per mu should be used. After selecting a suitable location, apply sufficient basal fertilizer, deeply till the soil, and prepare raised beds. Once the buds are ready, cut the woody pods into pieces that match the size of the bud head, ensuring each piece has 1-2 lateral shoots. Be sure to remove the main buds to prevent bolting, which can negatively affect both yield and quality. After cutting, dry the pieces for half a day to allow wounds to heal and reduce the risk of rot. When planting, space the holes 40-50 cm apart, dig a hole about 40 cm deep, and make an upward incision (experience shows that this promotes faster root development). Cover the roots with 3 cm of soil, level the ground, and water thoroughly. The roots planted before freezing do not require seedlings; they will emerge naturally in spring. The spring planting method is similar to winter planting, though it takes longer for germination.
For seedling transplanting, plant between Qingming and Guyu festivals. Dig trenches 20 cm apart along the rows, sow seeds evenly, cover them with soil, and use mulch to keep the surface moist until the seeds germinate. When seedlings reach about 5 cm in height, thin out the crowded ones. If bolting occurs around the time of Ching Ming or after, remove the affected plants promptly.
2. Major Pests and Diseases: Leaf spot disease is common during dry seasons and can be controlled using a 1:1:150 Bordeaux mixture. In rainy seasons, waterlogged areas may lead to root rot, so proper drainage is crucial. Insects such as fire spiders and cockroaches can be managed with 50% chlorpyrifos emulsifier diluted at 1000-2000 times, or 1% malathion powder applied at 1.5-2 kg per mu. For severe infestations, 90% trichlorfon can be used at a 1000-fold dilution.
Harvesting and Processing: The medicinal roots are harvested at the end of autumn when the leaves turn yellow. Cut the stems and leaves, and dig up the roots 5-7 cm below the shoot. Dry them for use as medicine. The buds can be left on the plant to develop into seed pods. If not planted before winter, store the buds underground to preserve them for the next season.
Amino Acid
Amino acid are organic acids containing amino groups, which are the basic units of proteins. There are more than 20 kinds of amino acids that constitute proteins, which are often divided into essential amino acids and non-essential amino acids according to their nutritional needs for pigs and chickens. In pigs, chickens can not be synthesized, or can be synthesized, but the speed and quantity of synthesis can not meet its normal growth needs, so must be supplied by the outside world of amino acids, called essential amino acids. So far, the essential amino acids that have been widely used in the breeding industry are methionine and lysine
Efficacy and function of amino acid for Poultry and veterinary use:
First, Feed Amino Acid improve immunity
Amino acids are important nutrients in animals, which can improve the immunity of animals
Second, promote growth and development
Amino acids also have a positive effect on the growth and development of domesticated animals
Third, improve the efficiency of breeding
There is a certain relationship between animal amino acid intake and feed conversion rate. Reasonable strengthening of amino acid supply can improve feed utilization rate, reduce pollutant discharge and improve aquaculture efficiency
