Takeda's Phase III Study of Ulcerative Colitis Drug Vedolizumab

Japanese medicine announced the success of the Vedolizumab Phase III study. This medicine is used in the treatment of patients with moderate-severe ulcerative colitis. The patients were all patients who failed at least once after conventional treatment.

The randomized, placebo-controlled GEMINI I study reached the primary endpoint, with both clinical response and clinical remission improved.

In a double-blind trial, patients were treated with vedolizumab or placebo for a period of one year.

Both Vedolizumab and placebo cause corresponding side effects and usually include: colitis, headache, and nasopharyngitis.

Tadataka Yamada, chief medical officer of Takeda Co., Ltd., said: “We are very satisfied with the results of the Phase III study. We are very optimistic about us for the treatment of this debilitating disease.”
